Median

Each piece of music is generally represented by several 6-second sequences. Thus it is necessary to combine the information contained within them and find one representation for each piece. In the thesis several alternatives where evaluated. The median proved to be the simplest approach with a comparable quality to other more complex methods.

Figures 1 to 4 illustrate the 6-second sequences of 4 pieces of music. The values to the left of each subplot indicate the range of the MFS values. Figure 5 depicts the corresponding median representation.
