Postal AdressAustrian Research Institute for Artificial Intelligence
Freyung 6/6/7, A-1010 Vienna, Austria
Where We Are
OFAI is located in the city centre, in Vienna's first district.
Below is a map of the area.
The institute is located in the inner yard of the Schottenhof building at Freyung 6,
at two stair flights ("Stiege"): 6 and 3.
OFAI 1 hosts the secretariat, the Intelligent Music Processing and Machine Learning and the Applied Cognitive Science and Social Robotics groups; it is located at stair flight 6, on the third floor (door 7, no elevator!)
OFAI 2 hosts the Language and Interaction Technologies and the Intelligent Software Agents and New Media groups; it is located at stair flight number 3 at the ground level (door 1a).
There are two main entrances to the courtyard of Freyung 6, marked "1" and "2" on the map:

How to Get to Us
OFAI 1 is located at "Stiege" 6
(notice the stair flight number indicator above the entrance),
on the third floor at door (no elevator)!
This is the entrance to OFAI 1, with the paths from accesses 1 and 2:
OFAI 2 is located at "Stiege" 3 (at the far end of the courtyard from OFAI 1, and towards the right), the entrance is at the ground level to the right (at door 1a):
Reaching OFAI by Public Transport
From Vienna international airport (VIE) you can take buses to "Schwedenplatz" in the first district and the rail terminals "Südbahnhof" and "Westbahnhof"; or you can reach Vienna by train (the (cheaper) public suburban railway line S7 or the privately run CAT—city airport train) to the "Wien Mitte" terminal, where you have connections to the metro lines U3 and U4.
To proceed to OFAI, take the train and change to metro line U3 at "Wien Mitte" (direction "Ottakring") and get out at stop "Herrengasse" (location H1 on the map). Or, take the bus to "Schwedenplatz" and take metro lines U4 (direction "Heiligenstadt") for one stop until "Schottenring", and U2 (direction "Karlsplatz") for one stop until "Schottentor" (location H2 on the map).
"Schottentor" (location H2 on the map) is a stop of the metro line U2, of the streetcar lines 1, 2, and D, and the final stop of several "radial" streetcar lines coming from the north of town (37-44).
Leaving OFAI by Taxi
In Schottengasse, close to H2, there is a large taxi stop, where you
should be able to take a cab quickly at any time of the day.
But do note that these regular cabs are significantly more expensive than dedicated airport cabs!
About public transport:
Vienna is part of a the VOR which provides a single public transport system for the eastern regions of Austria, with common ticket prices. The whole region is divided into zones and you buy tickets based on how many zones you travel across, no matter which kind of transport you use (with a few exceptions). The whole city of Vienna counts as a single zone.
- Search for a public transport connection (use the address "Freyung 6" for OFAI)
- Google Maps also knows about Vienna's public transport system
- The WienerLinien offer several maps and tourist folders for download. Especially helpful for sightseeing in the first district is the map "Public Transport in the City".
