We have used in-vitro patch clamp recordings in slices of the mouse visual cortex and biophysical simulations to investigate some of these phenomena. In particular, we investigated the irregularity of spike trains in pyramidal neurons and interneurons, the effect of the neuromodulator acetylcholine on the spike phase-reset curves of neurons and the interaction of sub-threshold oscillations with inhibitory synaptic potentials.
